I am so Happy!

This is a post about running and how I finally got a Nano & Nike+ running chip. It may not be interesting to read but I want to write it...

As a runner over the years I used many ways to track my mileage, pace and time. Many of which have been extremely frustrating. Years ago it started with watch-guessing and driving the route myself using the car odometer then it went to using software programs and a GPS. Since I moved to Chico it has been even more frustrating because the best place to run is Bidwell Park. It is beautiful place with many wonderful trails, the problem is on computer programs like MS Streets and Trips or Mapmyrun.com the maps do not show the running trails so there is still a lot of guessing and estimating. I also have this Navman armband GPS that worked great in Elk Grove but in Bidwell park it would constantly loose the satellite connection, therefore I ditched it a long time ago. In the end I have been back to the frustrating guessing game I started with.

So let's backtrack now:
A few years ago I got word that some brilliant people came up with a way to track your miles and pace using your ipod. Only works with Nano or ipod touch- not the shuffle I owned. Since I did not have an extra $300.00 dollars lying around and I am married to a wonderful money cautious man the Nano/Nike+ chip got put on my wish list.
-at that time the $300 included the $150.00 Nano, $30.00 nike chip, $100.00 Nike+ shoes and $20.00 arm band-

When you put Chico and Bidwell park runs in the mix and you come up with a constantly wining woman who wanted to get that Nano and would not stop talking about it!

If you ask anyone who knows me, believe me they were all sick of hearing me talk about it.
Todd finally gave in and surprised me with a Nano for my Birthday. YEAH!! I took me a few days to find a nano holder that would work with the chip and to find the Nike+ package (Biggest complaint about Chico: Stores and shopping) Oh and by the way they came up with a sensor holder that attaches to your shoelace so you don't have to pay for the overpriced Nike+ shoes.
Yesterday I got everything I needed and today was my first real work out- the moment I have been waiting for...

You might think I am crazy but the best way to describe it is: Heaven on Earth. I was SO happy and I loved every minute of my run. I am so excited to have this awesome gadget. What great technology we have today- a runners dream!

When you were using mapmyrun.com were you putting the map on hybrid view? It will allow you to map off the beaten path by combining a satellite image with a street map image.

It's a little after the fact... The Nano/Nike running chip is still waaaaaay better. Mapmyrun.com is awesome, but I love my GPS and I'd much rather have it even if technically I could live without it.

Yeah on mapmyrun.com the hybrid and satellite view work great everywhere but in the park because all you see is the top of all the trees.
I'm curious to see if your GPS works in the park. I bet it will.
Wanna come up for a run?

I'm so excited for you, Amber! (Though I have to admit the whole running thing is just beyond me. Ü) But I'm glad you are so happy about it!

The route I ran yesterday was 4.83 miles. I thought it was 4.5 miles, so I was close but not quite right. Now I know! I am so excied to try my other routes!
